At North Halifax Grammar School on Saturday 19th January the club hosted it's first Under 16 Community CVL of the year . Two teams were from Explorers , one which represented the NBL squad and one from the development squad. Whereas any player in the U16 NBL program is expected to be available for NBL games the CVL is very much run on community side and is simply an additional opportunity to play basketball on offer. The U16 NBL team that competes in CVL's is not the full NBL team that competes in the National Basketball League. CVL's are Central Venue Leagues where all teams play shortened games against all other teams in a one day tournament completed on the day .

Our comminity CVL's are very based on community and participation whereby coaches ensure all players get playing time and development opportunities rather than focusing on competitive winning. Ben Lee acted as Coach for the two teams. The games were refereed by Aaron Kay , Player Coach of the Senior Team and David Jane, MYM Coach with Club Chairman Glenn Hardaker on the scoreboard.

The two visiting teams were West Craven Turbines from Skipton who fielded a combined Under 16 and Under 18 team and Holme Valley Demons who have recently added the Junior Section to their existing Senior Team set up which has played in Leeds League Basketball for several years.

In the first game, Calderdale NBL succumbed to the older West Craven Turbines who exhibited great team work and togetherness which showed their team had experience playing together and it showed . In the second game, the less experienced Calderdale Development team were beaten by Holme Valley Demons but played well. In game three , Calderdale NBL then bounced back after their opening game loss and convincingly outscored Holme Valley. Game 4 saw the older West Craven Turbines dominate the younger and less experienced Calderdale Development team who showed resilience in defeat . The two visiting teams then played against each other in Game five with West Craven Turbines achieving a clean sweep at the day long event. The final game saw the two Explorer teams play each other with NBL based side outscoring the Development squad.
