Explorers 4th Quarter Domination Secures Victory
Explorers first game of 2017 was won decisively with a superb all round team performance where all 10 players contributed after a long road trip to Kendal Warriors.
An even start to the game where both teams traded baskets for the first minutes saw the Explorers lead that they were never to relinquish 19-16 at the end of the first quarter.
Led again by season top scorer Nathaniel Akins who only had a cast removed from his broken hand three days earlier as a result of a clash in our previous game against Chester four weeks ago.Explorers went on a 12-3 run to lead 31-19 halfway through the second quarter, but a dogged Kendal team never gave up and cut the Explorers lead to six 37-31 at half-time.
Kendal reduced the gap to three midway through the third but a 8-0 run by the Explorers extended their lead to eleven only for Kendal to finish the quarter stronger and reduce the gap at the end of the quarter to 53-48 in favour of the Explorers.
Akins ,Eddie Davis and Cyrus Dennis combined for 25 points in the last Quarter as the Explorers totally dominated to run out 88-61 victors against a tiring home team.
